long time readers who have followed my posts at the hearings Shafia kill the family in the spring of 2010 (to find them, Shafia into the search box) may be wondering what happened to the case since.
Well, there was a second preliminary hearing in Kingston, Ontario, last fall. At that time there had obviously been a concern to improve working conditions for performers, which I criticized last year. Better stands were installed for simultaneous interpretation, and they were better placed:
“Two translation booths, each capable of holding two interpreters, were erected on a large raised platform to the left of the judge. Tens of thousands of dollars worth of infra-red transmitters and receivers are in place, allowing everyone in the courtroom to listen to the simultaneous interpretation on wireless headsets."
